A poker card is a sheet of specially prepared card stock covered in cloth or plastic, paper-thin cardboard, thick paper, or light plastic-coated cardboard, and sometimes even a paper-thin colored plastic. Many poker card sets contain all 50 basic poker cards and aces, and usually the back and front of every card has an ornamental finish on top of the card. The backs and fronts of all cards may also be printed with the name of the poker tournament or the name of the individual player who is playing the game.
Some sets of poker cards may feature all the same cards, while others may feature one or more cards differently than the others. For example, the Ace of Clubs in most poker decks will be made up of a different card than the Ace of Diamonds, and the Ace of Hearts will consist of a different card from either the Ace of Clubs or the Ace of Diamonds, but may also have the name of the poker tournament printed in the front of the card. All poker decks are sold by decks of four, usually with two jokers included in the set.
Most standard poker cards feature the Ace of Clubs as the top card, while the Ace of Hearts and Ace of Spades are the next two highest cards. Every other card consists of a suit, the suit of which is based upon the suit of the poker chips used to play the game. For example, the Ace of hearts is played with one, five, seven, or nine-card poker game, and the Ace of Spades is played with five cards, six cards, seven cards, and nine-card poker games.
Poker cards are used in many poker tournaments, including live tournaments that are held at casinos and often have special cards printed in order to distinguish the players who participate from the others who do not. In these live poker tournaments, each player is dealt four hands, including two hands containing the Ace of clubs, two hands containing aces, and one hand containing aces and a jack of clubs. The player who wins two of the four hands wins the tournament, and if there are three players who win two of the four hands, the player who wins the most hands wins the tournament.
Card sets from most poker tournaments are sold with a sealed case, as is the case in most standard card sets. Although sealed cases are usually sold separately, sometimes they are sold together. In most cases, the cases contain both the poker cards that were dealt, and a plastic insert that contain the names of the poker tournament winners, the date and time of the tournament, and a list of rules and regulations governing the tournament.
Poker card sets are popular among collectors. They can be purchased through online dealers, at stores that specialize in gambling supplies, and at hobby stores.
